"(also known as 'Sparta'). Medium sized town about 200 km north of Antalya and famous for the production of Altar of Roses. .... In the 1920s, the Turkish Sumerbank , which later took control of weaving at Hereke, established carpet factories to produce large quantites of carpets and rugs for export. These have cotton foundations and are, apparently, woven with the Persian knot. ....They utilised many old Turkish carpet designs, including 'Large Medallion Ushaks', 'Lotto' rugs, 'bird' rugs and so on as well as medallion designs in the Persian Safavid style. They also produced complete plain hand-knotted carpets called duz. This large production was mainly for the Turkish domestic market." - from Oriental Rugs Volume 4 - Turkish by K.Zipper & C.Fritzsche
